World Wide Knit in Public Day (WWKiP) is a worldwide week long celebration of knitting and other fiber arts. Volunteer sponsored events around the world bring stitchers together to work their crafts in public with Astrid Salling's "better living through stitching together" concept. This year at The Village Yarn & Fiber Shop we will be celebrating our 3rd annual WWKiP week long event and invite you to mark your calendar and join us in making a difference in our local community.

  • Donate food for those less fortunate in our community. We will be collecting canned goods for Foodlink during our week long WWKiP celebration (now through June 21). Anyone bringing in a donation will receive 100 bonus points on their customer account (no purchase necessary).
  • Send a hug and brighten a day. We will be collecting hats for Hugs for Heads to donate to Golisano Children's Hospital. All hats to fit any size head from preemie to teen are welcome. Visit the shop for patterns and yarn ideas. Anyone donating a hat will also receive 100 bonus points on their customer account (no purchase necessary).

Join us in the park to stitch together in the spirit of WWKiP and as part of our Alzheimer's fundraising team event The Longest Day. We will meet at the Gazebo in Edmund Lyon Park, located near the intersection of Main Street and West Ivy Street in East Rochester on Saturday, June 21 from 4pm until sun down (approx.  8:30pm) when we will honor all those whose lives have been touched by Alzheimer’s with a closing ceremony.

On The Longest Day, teams around the world come together to honor the strength, passion and endurance of those facing Alzheimer's with a day of activity. Held on the summer solstice, Saturday, June 21, 2014, from sun up to sun down, this event calls participants to raise funds and awareness to advance the efforts of the Alzheimer's Association to accelerate research across the globe, provide care and support to those in need and advocate for the needs and rights of those facing Alzheimer's.

Please consider joining our Village Yarn & Fiber Shop Longest Day team or making a donation.  You can view our team page to join or donate.  Our fundraising goal is $1,600.  Team members can help with raising funds and taking turns stitching from sun up to sun down.  Thank you for your support!
