Sit & Knit

Thursdays from 7:00pm - 9:00pm
Free Event

Come join us on Thursday evenings with your current project to socialize and make some new friends! Coffee and tea will be available to enjoy while you relax and work on your projects. Bring your knitting, crochet, spinning – or any craft project you wish. All are welcome!

They sit and wait - in baskets, bags, boxes and closets - for us to get up the nerve to tackle the next difficult step, to face the black hole of sleeve knitting... or just to finally rrrrrrip-it! It’s always easier with sympathetic knitters nearby, and you might just get the push you need to finish something!

Basic Socks

Saturday, 1/18/2020, 2/1/2020 from 9:00- 11:00am and 2/15/2020 from 9:00 - 10:00am
Fee: $75 plus materials tuition (multiple class sessions)

New to sock knitting? This is the perfect place to start! Join us for two 2-hour sessions and a final 1-hour session to learn top down sock basics and how to knit socks in the round using Tin Can Knits Rye Light sock pattern. Classes are scheduled to give students ample time to complete their sock knitting homework between classes and make a pair of adult sized socks in fingering weight yarn.

Skill Requirements: students must be comfortable casting on, knitting, purling and binding off.

Students comfortable knitting small projects in the round are welcome to use whatever knitting in the round method they prefer.  Students new to knitting small projects in the round may choose the method they would like to learn to use in this class including double pointed needles, 2 circular needles, magic loop, flexi-flips and short (8") circulars.

Materials: Tin Can Knits Rye Light sock pattern (free), 100 grams of fingering weight sock yarn and needles of your choice in the appropriate size to get gauge for your socks (available through the shop)

Learn To Knit

Saturday, 1/11/2020, 1/25/2020 and 2/8/2020 from 9:00am - 11:00am
Fee: $75 for three 2-hour class sessions tuition (multiple class sessions) / includes materials (yarn, needles, and pattern)

In this learn to knit class you will learn to cast on, knit, purl, bind off and mattress stitch. All materials (yarn, needles and pattern) are included to make a toasty pair of fingerless mitts!

Please note this class starts at 9:00am (one hour before the shop opens).


Oops! 101

Saturday, 2/29/2020 from 9:00 - 11:00am
Fee: $35 tuition (single class session)

In this class you will learn how to read your stitches, recognize problems in your knitting, tink, frog, easily put your stitches back onto your needles, and how ro repair slipped stitches and dropped stitches in both stockinette and garter stitch.

Students should come prepared with knitting needles (circular or straight) appropriate for worsted weight or heavier yarn, some spare double pointed needles in small sizes up to a US 4 if you have them, and two 6"x 6" worsted or heavier weight yarn swatches: one in garter stitch and one in stockinette stitch. Swatches should be made in a light to medium color to facilitate stitch reading.

Skill Requirements: students must be comfortable with casting on, knitting, purling and binding off.

Scheduled Help Table Sessions

Monday, Wednesday & Friday from 11:00am - 1:00pm, Saturday from 12:00pm - 2:00pm
Fee: $10 tuition (single class session) / $45 for a 5 session punch card

About Dizzy Clubs

Ongoing Throughout The Year

What are these Dizzy Clubs?: Each Dizzy Club is a year-round once-a-month fiber party, each with its own focus. Whether you join with your friends, come to meet new fiber friends, or both, it’s a great way to explore your favorite fiber topics, learn new techniques, and share some time with other crafty friends just having fun! 

What is the difference between a Dizzy Club and a Class?: Unlike technique or project based classes, Dizzy Clubs are loosely bounded by each Club’s focus and outline of techniques to explore, Club activities evolve based on participant interests and interactions in a relaxed social atmosphere that forges new friendships and feeds and expands your crafting passions. 

Dizzy Club Meetings: Every Dizzy Club meets once a month throughout the year. That's 12 meetings over an entire year for one low registration fee of $75! Club meetings focus on skills in this ongoing relaxed social setting where expert help is there for you as well as help and inspiration from each other. Club meeting dates are listed with each Dizzy Club description. You are welcome to enroll at any time, your club membership will carry into the next  year.

Dizzy Club Materials: Participants are welcome to bring their own tools, needles and hooks to use during club sessions. Additional costs for materials including pattern purchases and project materials are specified in Dizzy Club descriptions. Yarn used for club activities is restricted to yarn that has been purchased from the shop.

Dizzy Club - Building Knitting Skills

Meets First Thursday of the month from 7:00 - 9:00pm
Fee: $75 tuition (multiple class sessions) / tuition for 12 consecutive club meetings; additional cost for pattern book and materials

Come join us one evening a month and build your knitting skills in this ongoing relaxed social setting where expert help is there for you as well as help and inspiration from each other.  Unlike a conventional class, you can jump into this knitting skill building Dizzy Club at any time during the year and work at your own pace through the Michelle Hunter’s Building series book of your choice.

Students can choose from:

               

  • Building Blocks: expand your knitterly repertoire in this stitch mastering club offering as we work through Michelle Hunter's skill building blocks. By the end, you'll have a gorgeous lap throw, and it will be a fantastic reminder of how far you've come. 

     

  • Building In Color:  spice up your knitting in this colorful club offering as we work through Michelle Hunter's sequence of patterns that introduce knitters to color work in many of its various forms. By the end, you'll have a beautiful color work throw!

    

  • Building In Lace:  unlock the secrets of lace and a touch of beaded knitting  in this exciting club offering as we work through Michelle Hunter 's beautiful patterns that introduce knitters to lace work starting with the basics and working towards more difficult patterns. By the end, you'll have a lovely lacy wrap/throw to use!

    

Skill Requirements: students must be comfortable casting on, knitting, purling and binding off for any of the club offerings.

Materials: Building Blocks or Building In Color or Building In Lace pattern book by Michelle Hunter, appropriate yarn and needles of your choice (available through the shop)

Registration & Materials

  • Register online today, it's easy! Simply select the preferred registration option for the class you are interested in and click the Pay Now button. Registration fee payments are processed by PayPal through either your PayPal account or a credit card as you choose.  Optionally, you can stop by the shop to register in person or call us at 585-586-5470.
  • Please register early, as most classes have limited space.
  • Earn double points towards your VIP Customer Card rewards coupons on class registration fees!
  • We are now offering a 10% discount on the purchase of all required class materials!
  • Class fees must be paid in advance to reserve your spot and are non-refundable unless the class is cancelled by us.
  • If a class does not meet its minimum requirement 5 days prior to the start of class, we will cancel it.
  • Classes are bounded by the published class dates and times. Please only register for classes when you know published class dates do not conflict with any other commitments you either anticipate or have made that will preclude you from attending any of the associated class sessions. 
  • Make up classes may be made at the discretion and availability of the teacher for special circumstances that prevented a student from attending one or more class sessions.
  • In the event a class or class session is cancelled due to inclement weather or other emergent situation beyond our control, we will do our best to reschedule a mutually agreeable make up class / class session time for students to reconvene as a group.
  • We require that students use yarns that have been purchased at our shop for classes and strongly encourage students to use materials suggested or approved by our teachers as your satisfaction with the class depends greatly on the quality of the materials used.
